A laboratory of immersive theater and performances outside the box

La Pigeonnière was born out of the meeting between Mbalou Arnould and Blanche Tirtiaux in an communal living project by the same name in Anderlecht.

There developed a fruitful artistic collaboration which combined their interests for a multidisciplinary theater outside the traditional walls and the exploration into the place and role of the spectator. Although their research takes various forms (travelling shows, participative projects, site-specific creations), a theme remains.  To look upon the world again with new eyes by utilising the poetic and narrative power of public spaces.

Mbalou Arnould
Theater director, actress / dancer and violinist. She trained in Paris

(preparatory class for major theatre schools, conservatory of music) and Lyon (Art en Scene, school of Dramatic Art). She then worked as a performer and pedagogue in several international theater companies for movement: Divadlo Continuo (Czech Republic), Altamira Studio Teater (Denmark) and The Strings Theater Company (France) the last of which she is the director. With these companies, she worked particularly in researching different performance spaces, through the creation of site-specific shows and street performances. She moved to Belgium in 2016 where she met Blanche Tirtiaux and founded La Pigeonierre with her.

BlancheTirtiaux
After her studies in medieval history, Blanche trained in physical theatre and devised performance at the Kleine Academie, Art-T, as well as in many workshops. As an actress, director and musician, she is active in several creative projects with La Pigeonnière as well as her own show called “Cry, Witches”. She is passionate about directing actors and finding the organic dimension on stage.  Her work aims to make authentic and lively theater which leads her to creat ‘out of the box’’ shows, as well as working with different kind of audience.
